These Lingling-o Hoop Earrings features a hand-cast, solid recycled brass 5/8" lingling-o pendant (ethically sourced from Ifugao Nation) on a 3/4" gold tone stainless steel (will not tarnish!) hoop. These hoop earrings are designed by VINTA creative director, Caroline Mangosing, and lovingly hand assembled in Toronto by local Filipina artist Blessyl Buan.
The earliest surviving examples of lingling-o, dating back to around 500 BC, were found in Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The name lingling-o comes from the Ifugao name for these ornaments.
The lingling-o at present has gained popularity as a symbol of Philippine ancestry and pride, more importantly, fertility and feminine power.
