These hand-cast brass anting-anting are religious folk art objects from the Philippines' hybrid pagan and Catholic beliefs. You can find these beautiful things on the Evangelista Street side of Quiapo Church. Vendors there say that these objects are harbingers of success and provide protection to the bearer against bodily harm, illness, evil spirits, and curses.
This one in particular has a Jesus-like figure on one side and "Sator Arepo Tenet Opera Rotas," on the other side, an ancient five-word Latin palindrome. It is said that this piece is to protect the bearer from curses and illness caused by curses.
The anting-anting is a 1 3/4" solid hand-cast brass triangle piece is on 24" heavy antiqued brass chain and lobster claw closure. Assembled in Toronto.
